There’s an unexpected brightness to how Black Onyx begins, Ajmal pairing bergamot and pineapple in a way that belies the dark, mysterious name entirely. Galbanum, geranium, lily of the valley, and lavender take the entire middle, green and herbal, pulling the composition toward something more serious as it slowly develops. Vetiver, cedar, and oakmoss settle the entire base into an earthy, understated finish built for an entire, long evening’s wear. This Eau De Parfum suits formal occasions especially well without ever really asking for much attention, understated rather than showy about its own presence. The dark, elegant name earns its place across every stage of the wear, never once slipping into anything showy or overplayed each time it’s applied fresh.
